Synology NAS - Build The Ultimate Smart Home Server For HomeKit
Let’s apply the power of 3 to a Synology NAS and build the ultimate smart home server for Apple HomeKit that will support Homebridge, Scrypted & Zigbee2MQTT that will have provide an effective and functional Smart Home Service.
There is something special about the number three. There are three goals in a hat trick, three primary colors, Three Stooges, three pieces to a classic suit, and three choices in a game of rock, paper, scissors.
So I wanted to apply this same principle to this Synology NAS by Installing
1. Homebridge – That Brings HomeKit support where there is none
- Zigbee2MQTT – To get rid of your proprietary Zigbee bridges and Build your Own
- Scrypted – Get a high performance home video integration platform
Once you have these 3 systems installed – you are guaranteed to have an effective and functional Smart Home Server that will support Apple HomeKit.
So I will be using a Synology DS 218+ which is running on DSM 7
For the zigbee coordinator – will be using the Sonoff Zigbee Dongle Plus
And for Scrypted camera integration – will be using a Wyze Camera Version 2.
