In this video, I’ll show you how to easily integrate Tasmota pre-flashed devices into Apple HomeKit using the Homebridge Tasmota plugin. No cloud, no hassle—just pure local control. I’ll walk you through the plugin setup, explain Tasmota’s benefits, and demo how it works in real-time.

If you’re looking to take full local control of your smart devices, you’ve probably heard of Tasmota. Normally, Adding Tasmota requires setting up MQTT topics, which can get a bit technical and frustrating. But what if I told you there’s a damn easy way to connect your Tasmota devices directly to Apple HomeKit.

Hello & Welcome to my Channel which is all about building an affordable DIY Smart Home that supports the Apple HomeKit Ecosystem.

and I have done tons of tutorial videos that you can literally use right now.  So pretty please do take a look and don’t feel shy to like, share and subscribe to always follow along.

Today, we’re diving into something really exciting for anyone looking to build a smart home that’s completely under their control — no cloud dependency, just pure local control. I’m talking about Tasmota and how to integrate it with Apple HomeKit using a Homebridge plugin!

[WHAT IS TASMOTA?]

“So, let’s start with Tasmota itself. What exactly it is ?

Now, Tasmota is custom firmware designed for a wide range of smart devices, typically those based on the ESP8266 and ESP32 chips.

This firmware replaces the default firmware, giving you complete control over your devices, locally and securely, without needing to rely on the manufacturer’s cloud servers.”

“Tasmota = Custom Firmware + Full Local Control + Cloud-Free”

One of the reasons I chose Tasmota is that it lets you integrate your devices with platforms like Home bridge or Home Assistant  without compromising privacy or relying on the cloud. Thats the whole point  of building a DIY Smart Home.

Plus, the best part? You can actually find devices online that come with Tasmota already pre-flashed and ready to go—no setup hassle! Just connect, and you’re all set.

[ADVANTAGES OF TASMOTA FOR SMART HOMES]

“Here are some quick highlights of why Tasmota is a fantastic choice for smart homes, especially if you’re interested in”

Local Control: “This is a big one. Unlike cloud-based systems, all data and commands stay within your local network, meaning faster response times and enhanced privacy.”

Customizable Firmware: “You can tweak a ton of settings to fit your exact needs. Tasmota supports a lot of devices, from bulbs to smart switches, sensors, and more.”

Reliability: “With no need to rely on cloud servers, your devices won’t go offline if there’s a server issue, and you’re not affected by any cloud service shutdowns.”

Eddie:

“Plus, there’s a huge community around Tasmota, which is always a bonus. If you run into issues or want to add functionality, you’ll find a ton of help online.”

[DEMO: INTEGRATING TASMOTA DEVICES WITH HOMEBRIDGE]

“Alright, now let’s get into the fun part. We’re going to take this device that’s already flashed with Tasmota and integrate it into Apple HomeKit using the Homebridge Tasmota plugin.

By the way, there’s no need to set up MQTT to make this work.

Anyways we’re following this setup guide on the plugin’s GitHub page.”

Step 1: Installing the Homebridge Plugin

Eddie:

“First, we need to install the Homebridge Tasmota plugin.

Open Homebridge, go to the ‘Plugins’ tab, and search for ‘Tasmota Control.’

Once you find it, click ‘Install.’

Step 2: Adding Tasmota Device to Homebridge

“Now that the plugin is installed, we can go to the plugin’s settings.

Here, we need to add some key details about our Tasmota device which in my case is going to be this pre flashed Tasmota smart plug.

The critical parts are the name of the device, IP address of your device which needs to be reserved in your router settings.

Under Advanced settings – you can further adjust the settings and you can also import the default name the device has in Tasmota. Again it’s an option.

Lastly – if you have setup any credentials to access the device then add that information here. In my case – there’s none.

(Cut to screen with Homebridge plugin settings filled out)

Eddie:

“Once you fill this in, hit ‘Save’ and restart Homebridge.”

Step 3: Configuring Device in Apple HomeKit

(Eddie pulls out his iPhone and shows the new device in Apple HomeKit)

Eddie:

“After restarting, your Tasmota device should now show up in the Home app! Now, you can access it as you would with any other HomeKit-compatible device.

So, here’s my Tasmota-powered smart plug”

[DEMO: TESTING OUT THE DEVICE]

“Let’s test it out! Here in the Home app, I can control the plug instantly and control the lamp shade.

Since this is all local, there’s no lag, no waiting for cloud servers.”

(Eddie presses the switch in the Home app, and the switch toggles in real-time)

[WHY TASMOTA + HOMEBRIDGE IS A GREAT COMBO]

“So why is this combination of Tasmota and Homebridge such a game-changer?

For anyone invested in smart home tech but cautious about privacy and reliability,

Tasmota gives you full device control, and integrating it with Homebridge and HomeKit lets you keep everything within one ecosystem — all without any reliance on the cloud!”

[WRAP-UP & CALL TO ACTION]

“And that’s it for today’s walkthrough of how to integrate Tasmota pre-flashed or devices you flashed into Apple HomeKit using Homebridge.

“If you’re considering moving away from cloud-dependent devices or are just curious about setting up local control in your smart home, give Tasmota and Homebridge a shot.
